Nigeria’s power generation has increased to 4,285.90 megawatts today,
this is an improvement on the 3,810 megawatts recorded on previously.
This information was disclosed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria
(TCN) on its website today, September 16.
According to the company, 4,285.90 megawatts was the
total output by power generation companies, and had been transferred to
the 11 distribution companies across the country. Electricity generation
in Nigeria has been stable in the last two months, with the megawatts
rising from about 2, 983 to over 4, 000.
Over 2,035 Nigerians participated in the poll and of this number, 58 per
cent admitted that the power supply in their areas have improved
massively. 15 per cent said the supply in their areas have remained the
same while 9 per cent said the electricity supply in their area was
manageable. Only 18 per cent said outright that the power in their area
is bad.
Meanwhile, 40 Chinese engineers recently visited the site of the
Mambilla hydro power project station located at Gembu in Taraba state.
The engineers are expected to begin work on the project that is expected
to add 3,050 megawatts to the national grid.
In a related development, the Japanese government through the Japan
International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently donated solar power
equipment worth $9.7 million to the Nigerian federal government.
According to media reports, the solar equipment is capable of generating up to 1,496 mega watts.
