• Rivers State Police command said yesterday that they recovered N111.3 million from 23 INEC officialswho conducted the December 10, 2016 rerun in Rivers State.
• The cash, they claimed, is part of the N360 million bribe allegedly paid by Governor Nyesom Wike to compromise electoral and security officials for his party’s candidates to win.
• The unnamed officials have been indicted for their involvement in the violence that occurred during the election, the police said.

Six policemen indicted for their role during the election have been dismissed. They are to be prosecuted.

This is part of the report of the Joint Investigation Panel constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris on December 22, 2016, to probe the violence that led to the killing of two policemen during the election.

The report was submitted to the IG at the Force Headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
The 12-member panel comprises nine policemen and three Department of State Services (DSS) personnel. 

It was mandated to investigate the various infractions, incidents, and violence that marred the rerun.

The panel attributed the violence to lawlessness and leadership failure.

The chairman of the panel, Damian Okoro, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), said N111.3 million was recovered from 23 INEC officers. He said three senior electoral officers collected N20 million each of the N360 million allegedly given to them by Wike. The remaining officers received N15 million each.

Okoro said the committee established “cases of misconduct on the part of some electoral officers and law enforcement agents who, unfortunately, allowed themselves to be compromised in their line of duties and deserve to be disciplined appropriately.”

He added that “the task given to the panel was quite challenging because of the tense political and security situation in the state, especially the prevalence of violent crimes, such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and politically motivated killings, by militant and culture groups that enjoy the funding and protection of desperate politicians.

“These lawless elements target not only the political opponents of their sponsors but also law enforcement agents, especially the police, mostly within the Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area, which is the axis of evil of cultism.

“The violence that occurred in Rivers State, before during and after the rerun was a reflection of lawlessness and leadership failure of narrow-minded politicians and their gullible supporters.

IOM Releases Death Toll Of Migrants Crossing The Mediterranean Sea In 2017

255 migrants drowned while crossing the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of 2017, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has disclosed.

The organization said on Tuesday in Geneva that arrival of migrants in Europe in the first 36 days of 2017 was much lower than that of last year.

According to IOM, a total of 255 men, women and children drowned while crossing the sea this year.

The organisation said the figure was lesser than the 380 deaths recorded over the same period in 2016.

It said that 228 number of death recorded this year had been documented on the central Mediterranean Sea route between North Africa and Italy.

It added that additional 27 individuals ost their lives on the western and eastern Mediterranean passage.
IOM said that a total of 11,010 migrants and refugees arrived in Europe through the sea by Feb. 5 this year.

According to the organization the number is significantly lower than over 74,800 arrivals in the first 36 days of 2016.
IOM statistics revealed that most of this year’s maritime arrivals (9,359) were documented in Italy, with the rest landing in Greece (1,651).

The producer of award winning movies Onye Ozi, The Mirror Boy and Last Flight to Abuja is set to thrill fans with yet another thought provoking movie.

Obi Emelonye announced yesterday in a press conference in Lagos that he is currently working on a movie titled Badamasi, which would paint the intimate life history of former military ruler Ibrahim Babangida who ruled the country from 85 to 93.

He said the movie would be in cinemas before the end of the year.

She urged the media to respect her privacy while the lucky girls adapt to her family.

The two orphans have been staying at an Orphanage home in central Malawian city of Mchinji since they turned two from where Madonna found them.

Madonna reportedly asked for privacy because the photo she shared on IG was doctored.

Madonna already has four children and with these two girls she has become a mother of six.

The family of Olushola Gaska nee Adefolalu, the Nigerian woman whose corpse was cremated by her Polish husband without family consent has petitioned the Nigerian Federal Government.

The husband of the deceased woman, Jakub Gaska allgedly cremated her remains on January 2nd 2017 and interred her ashes on January 7 without informing the Adefolalus.

The deceased’s elder sister, Mrs. Abimbola Essien-Nelson, at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, alleged that Oluwashola was murdered and her corpse hastily cremated to cover it despite the family’s objection.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Benue Association of Movie Producers (AMP) have disassociated themselves from two pornographic movies recently shot in Makurdi.

The two movie productions; the “IPhone 7 Babes and Feast of Death”, were shot in locations within Makurdi in December 2016 by film producer, Derrick Walter of Nollyniz Gate Productions.

The associations on Saturday in Makurdi, condemned the content of the movie productions and said the actors that featured in them were not their members.

A joint statement by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the AMP and AGN, Rose Okwoli and Benjamin Ukwueze, respectively, described the productions as “archaic, barbaric, uncivilized , illegal and against acceptable moral and cultural norms which they are out to project”.

They also distanced themselves from the conduct and character of the artists shown in the obscene movies.

“They are not registered members of the bodies and the producer did not seek approval from AMP/AGN as is the usual practice for the production of the movies under reference.

“The associations strongly condemn the entire project; the abuse of professionalism exhibited by the producer, Mr Derrick Walter, owner of Nollyniz Gate Productions.

“We also condemn the desperation and profanity showcased by the so called artists in a bid to gain fame and popularity in the movie industry and the abuse of dignity and decency.

“The artists involved are not our registered members; the said producer did not seek the approval of AMP/AGN, none of the bodies gave approval for the production of such movies.”

They claimed to have been aware of the movies through various platforms on the social media and Internet.

The associations, however, assured that efforts were underway to correct the negative impact created by the movies in the state, adding that several vetting agencies were already contacted.

“We have already contacted the National Film and Video Censors Board, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Copyright Commission for necessary actions.”

They pledged to ensure the integrity and professionalism of all movies and actors involved in film production in the state, and urged all stakeholders to assist the Benue movie industry meet its set goals.

Doctor Drugged By Woman He Met On Badoo Dating Site, Suspect Stole His Car & Fled To Delta State

A woman has been arrested for allegedly drugging a medical doctor in Lagos.

The suspect and the victim met last year on social media site, Badoo and since then, they have been meeting regularly in hotels around Lagos.

On the 19th of January, the suspect drugged her lover and escaped with his personal belongings which included a 2001 Volkswagen Passat Wagon.

She was arrested last week Tuesday in Agbor Delta state while trying to process the import papers for the stolen car.

The car was later recovered from a shop in Warri with the plate number missing.
